Activities All Year Round

Rockhampton has some amazing special events throughout the year but it also has some pretty spectacular local attractions for visitors all year round. From all day activities like snorkelling in the Southern Great Barrier Reef to a couple of hours at the Zoo. There is something for everyone. Whether you’re passing through or here for a visit. All ages, all year!
Just a short drive away
The Rockhampton Zoo is only a short 6-minute drive from us. It’s a must see for everyone not just kids, with 60 different animal species and amazing attractions from meerkat encounters to watching the family of Chimpanzees swing from the treetops. Located between the Botanic Gardens and the Murray Lagoon, you can wander the grounds taking in your blissful surroundings. But the best part, its FREE!

Looking for something a little more cultural, the Rockhampton Museum of Art is definitely for you, with their permanent collection showcasing an Australia modernist movement by significant Australian artists and continually collecting from living contemporary artists. Alongside the permanent collection there is always something new to see with different displays showcased from archives EVERY MONTH!

Want the best views in the city? Head to Mount Archer for the most breathtaking views of Rockhampton, the Fitzroy River, and the surrounding grasslands. If you’re looking for to get your heartrate up, you can walk the Nurim summit to Sleipner. Taking about an hour and 3.4km return, but if you’re looking for something easier the Nurim circuit elevated boardwalk is a 500m circuit with the most spectacular views of west Rockhampton city, or views of the Capricorn Coast on the east. And its wheelchair accessible!!

Looking for something longer?
Looking for a longer activity, then the Capricorn Caves located 33 minutes from us. They are the largest limestone caves privately owned in Australia showcasing the history of the rock formations and land of the Rockhampton region as well as being home to native wildlife and endangered species. They are most certainly a must see and even offer ‘Opera in the Caves’ in the Cathedral Cave as well as other special events throughout the year.

...maybe an all day experience?
If you have a free day and feel like doing some sightseeing head off the coast to explore Great Keppel Island and Pumpkin Island, just a short boat ride away from Yeppoon. These islands contribute to the Southern Great Barrier Reef and are exceptional for snorkelling as home to a variety of different marine and coral species.
